Lytham pay for their sins

Lytham St Annes Men lost their chance after Northern Counties Division One leaders Wigan fell foul of the umpire and had two men sin-binned. Wigan held out to win 2-0 after the shamed pair spent time together on the sidelines after being yellow-carded for fouls. Lytham couldn't score despite dominating for 50 minutes. Within two minutes of the start they were a goal down when a Wigan forward was perfectly placed to score after a deflection. LSA applied extreme pressure and forced several great saves from a competent keeper. A well-drilled penalty corner then put Wigan two up. With Dave Hans, and Tom Atkinson outstanding, Lytham were in charge but simply couldn't break down stubborn opponents.

Blackburn atones for blunder

Lytham St Annes Ladies shook off an early deficit to beat visiting Morecambe 3-1 and consolidate second place in the Premier Division of the Lancashire Central Women's League. Ruth Blackburn missed a couple of swift chances to wipe out the visitors' shock strike and the team failed to benefit from ten penalty corners in the first half to their opponents one. They bucked up in the second half when probing runs by Gill Harrison opened up gaps in the defense. Once Rachel Parziale converted a scrappy goal the result never looked in doubt. Blackburn fired in a scorching penalty corner shot and Lian Atkinson then scored from short range. Player of the match was tenacious defender Jenny Reid.
