Lytham avengers sweep to resounding win
A TOP-NOTCH performance from Lytham men's first XI saw them grab a 5-2 victory over a Chester side who beat them 6-0 in October.
It
was an outstanding day for Lytham, extending a winning run which began at
Christmas against a visiting side who are second in the table.
Tom
Atkinson gave them a dream start, providing a perfect pass for David Hans to
deflect home, and Dave Robbins then repeated the drill to score the second.
The
home side showed great determination, with Duncan Shields playing well at centre
back on his return from injury and the superb team spirit epitomised by skipper
Richard McGee.
Chester
pulled a goal back but Craig Nuttall re-established the two-goal lead, and after
the break Lytham were rewarded when good play down the left ended with Charles
Batho scoring.
Then
Hans made a typical sortie upfield and put the victory beyond doubt to give
Lytham a great chance of second place in the league.
Last
week, the men's seconds lost 1-0 to Manchester University and things did not
improve this week as they went down 2-0 at home to Sefton.
In
the University clash, Doug Green and John Langford were outstanding, while third
XI skipper David Bleasdale starred at right-back, but they squandered chance
after chance before conceding a late goal.
It
was much the same this week as chances went astray and the opposition took full
advantage.
The
men's thirds were strengthened by first teamer Ian Brown against Bolton 4th XI
at Bispham and he scored the winner in a 2-1 victory
Lytham
were without David Burns and Paul Burnett but were rewarded with a good Gavin
Roberts goal.
Lytham
conceded an equaliser and missed several easy scoring chances before finally
getting the winner when Brown had a good shot saved but flicked the rebound
home.
A
depleted fourth XI went down 6-1 at Southport.
With
the club as a whole hit badly by injured and illness, they could only field nine
men, two of whom were only 14.
However,
they battled hard and managed a goal when Phil Collier-Baker's free-hit resulted
in Tim Killick slipping the ball under the keeper.
Matt
Harwood kept the score down with a number of very good saves, while youngsters
Andy Robinson and Stuart Waby combined well to give the Southport defence one or
two scares. Andy Pothecary and Kevin Waby worked tirelessly in defence
A
goalless draw was probably a fair result in the men’s fifths clash with
Urmston.
Lytham
dominated for periods, with John Muir playing well and club stalwart Mike
Greenwood returning as though he had never been away.
A
brilliant equaliser from Nick Parrot earned Lytham Badgers a point against
Manchester Indians after they had been 3-0 down.
Parrot’s
unstopable shot from a penalty corner tied the scores and Lytham then pressed
for a winner. Manchester had taken a two goal lead against the run of play and a
third followed before half-time.
A
late winner from Ruth Blackburn, her second of the game, gave Lytham Ladies
first XI a fine 3-2 victory over Garstang.
The
scores were level at half-time but then Lytham upped the pace and were rewarded
when Michelle Singleton provided a superb pass for Rachel Parziale to strike
home.
Garstang
replied only for Blackburn to put the home side ahead again, rounding off a good
run with a superb finish. The visitors levelled again before Blackburn grabbed
the decider.
