Lytham Mens 1st

Lytham continued where they left off last week with another good win against their NorthEast opponents. After conceding an early goal Lytham stepped up the pace of the game and were rewarded with a goal by Chris Hadley of exceptional quality. The move began in defense and after 5 quick passes the ball was delivered perfectly in front of Chris Hadley who showed good composure to flick the ball well beyond the Durham Keeper. Unfortunately Lytham's concentration lapsed again before half time allowing Durham to score their second and leaving Lytham with a lot to do in the second half. Lytham looked a different side in the second half, from the first minute they showed true self-belief and this paid off with the award of a penalty flick for Dave Robbins to level the score. Lytham continued to pressure the Durham goal and Richard McGee was unlucky not to score after his shot was well saved. The winning goal eventually came deep into the second half after another well worked move was well finished by Dave Hans after a good pass from Dave Robbins. Lytham are starting to get 3 points from important games even when they don't play to their full potential and this together with their team spirit and determination are encouraging signs that they are really starting to turn their poor start to the season around.

Lytham Mens 2nd

Lytham men's seconds put in a much-improved performance and were unlucky to go down 3-1 at Didsbury Northern. After the first ten minutes Lytham came to terms with the pace of the game and the defense showed a great improvement. They were unlucky to go a goal down but then Doug Green, their penalty corner specialist leveled just before half time. Lytham again did well in the second half. But they couldn't prevent a well drilled and more experienced Didsbury going back in front. Despite several chances Lytham failed to equalise and just before the end the home side scored a goal which summed up Lytham's luck. A shot at goal hit the tyre on the wheel beside the goalpost and the ball rebounded into play straight into the path of a Didsbury player who duly slotted home.

Lytham Mens 3rd

After a well earned draw the previous week Lytham thirds were looking for a win. Sadly they were disappointed, going 3-0 down to Didsbury Northern Lytham enjoyed more possession than Didsbury. However their playing formation left a gap in midfield which Didsbury exposed to the full. Their first goal came from a penalty corner, the second following a good through ball into the circle and the third after a strong counter attack following a Lytham near miss. Lytham had more shots on goal than Didsbury but all to no avail.

Lytham Mens 4th

Arriving on time to find no changing accommodation available in atrocious weather doesn't put a side in the right frame of mind from the start. And Lytham fourths duly crashed 2-0 against Macclesfield in a match where they deserved at least a point. Playing into the wind and rain in the first half Lytham were very much on the defensive with Andy Pothecary and Chris Mailings outstanding. However, Lytham had several good attacks down both wings, with Tim Killick and Jake Lavin excelling. Macclesfield scored their first goal from a penalty stroke when one of their players appeared to "take a dive" in the circle. The umpire thought otherwise. The second half was definitely mostly Lytham with Mark Lewis making a number of penetrating runs down the right wing. A high ball into the circle saw Matt Harwood's attempted stick save diverted into goal.

Lytham Mens 5th

Lytham St Annes Mens 5th XI beat Runcorn 3rd XI 6-2 and it was a great result in which the star of the game Oliver Ashworth, a junior member, scored four times. They were four up at half time, Nigel Seddon and Dan Thompson being the other two goalscorers. The second half saw Runcorn fighting back well and they scored from two penalty corners. Ashworth scored twice, the first after following up a shot from Steve Poole that hit the post and then got his last goal shortly before the end. A really good result for Lytham St Annes.

Lytham Ladies firsts lost 3-0 against Springfields in the Premier Division of the Lancashire Central League on the new Preston Arena. The two sides were very evenly matched in the first half with Lytham slightly unlucky to go a goal down. In the second half they were reduced to ten players with no substitute available, and gradually the game ran away from them.

Lytham Womens 2nd

Newly reformed Lytham Ladies seconds are certainly making themselves a name in Division One of the Lancashire Central League, a 5-0 win over Chorley their latest triumph. Jenny Leng made a welcome return to form with a well-deserved hat trick. Her and Lisa Griffin were well supported by Kelly Gore and Natalie Ingham in midfield. True to form the captain Jo Martyn-Clark came up trumps with two goals, one from a penalty corner and one from a superb strike, all despite struggling with a foot injury.

Lytham Womens 3rd

On a wet and windy day, not fit for ducks, let alone hockey, Lytham Ladies thirds were sunk 4-0 by Springfields. Down 2-0 at half time, Lytham played much better in the second half but still conceded two more goals despite a good goalkeeping performance from Helen Jones

Lytham Firsts Win to go into next round of Cup

Lytham Firsts

Lytham 1sts got through to the second stage of the cup competition with a 3-1 victory over Liverpool Sefton, who had a 9-0 victory the day before and top their division. Lytham started very strongly, employing short, sharp passes to break down the opposition's defense. A couple of chances were missed, but on their second short-corner move, Dave Hans deflected the ball superbly to give the keeper no chance and settle the home teams nerves. The score remained 1-0 until half-time, but Lytham were not playing to their potential and were allowing the opposition a chance to put them out of the competition. In stormy conditions, Lytham showed grit and determination ahead of brilliant hockey, but this was enough to prevent the visitors from equalising. With 20 minutes to go, Dave Robbins was fouled whilst through on goal and was awarded a penalty stroke, which he comfortably converted. Tom Atkinson could have made the win secure, but his shot was saved on the line. With 10 minutes to go, Liverpool scored from a shot that 9 times out of 10 Daf Jones would save, but Robbins calmed the home team's nerves by adding his second two minutes later.
