Lytham Mens 1st

LYTHAM men's first team exited the Lancashire Cup at the quarter-final stage, losing 6-0 to a strong Formby side.

Chris Kay, Chris Simcock and Dave Hans all played well and Lytham held their hosts to 0.0 at half-time before the flood. gates opened.

On Saturday they had hit their opponents for six in a convincing 6-1 home win against Neston.

Two goals from Craig Nuttall sandwiching a Dave Robbins penalty stroke, meant Lytham had virtually ensured victory by half-time.

More pressure brought a goal from Chris Hadley from a narrow angle. Hans then produced a moment of brilliance, beating several players before calmly reverse-sticking the ball over the keeper and into the net.

Finally, new recruit Kevin Bunten, having arrived from National League Hockey with Peterborough, pounced on a loose ball after a penalty corner to score the sixth goal.

When the motorway jet lag disappeared Lytham played well, creating several chances and a Doug Green goal from a penalty corner

Green and keeper Danny Horne had excellent games, with skipper Graham Stuart orchestrating the midfield and Gareth Gettings working hard.

Lytham Mens 4th

Lythain fourths won 4-2 at Bebbington to enhance their chances of climbing away from the bottom.

After 15 minutes, Mike Gannon, scored the first of a hat-trick after Tim Killick and Steve Poole had combined well.

The second half saw Poole and Jake Lavin showing pace and determination on the flanks. Another good pass from Killick left Gannon with only the keeper to beat for his second goal.

Captain Kevan Waby did well to control the 'whippet' he was marking before the Killick-Gannon combination produced the latter's hat-trick.

Stuart Waby scored the fourth, and as Lytham relaxed Bebbington scored a second.  Their opening goal had come just before half- time.

Lytham Mens 5th

Lytham fifths won 3-1 at Urmston.  New player Paul Harrison scored after a very good move with Peter Maguire.

In the second half, Lytham added two more but the result could have been different but for Lytham keeper Matt Patterson.  Young Richard Stevens and Oliver Ashworth were solid in midfield.

Lytham Bagers

Lytham Badgers lost 2-1 at home to Morecambe.  Keith Stone gave Lytham the lead with his second goal in two matches.  Matthew Edwards, Keiron Griffiths and William Bowker all went close.

With ten minutes to go and Lytham's legs tiring, Morecambe scored two late goals to snatch victory Ironically it was Lytham's Simon Stone who won the game, having volunteered to play for Morcambe!
