Well, here we are at the beginning of a new season - doesn't time fly when you are having fun?
Last year was extremely successful, with the second team securing promotion, as well as adding the cup to their cabinet. The ladies first team consolidated their position in the premier league, and let’s hope that we can do even better this year. This summer, the ladies have had a team entered in a seven-a-side tournament, playing on a weekly basis in Longridge, which has proved to be a great deal of fun.
Once again, we will be losing some players to university, either those starting out, among those Sarah Fraser-Pitt, or just returning after a gap year - Michelle Birtwell. Let’s wish them all the best in whatever they do! (you never know, they may return to continue the sport once they have finished!). In the meantime, we are on a recruitment drive in the ladies section.
Once again, being one of the most sociable sides in the North (even if I do say so myself), we will be taking our annual trip to Ayr - 1st weekend in September - not much time left if you are interested. We enter both a Ladies and a Men’s side, and always have a great time, so if you are keen, either contact Dave Robbins or Carrie Bower for more information. This is just one of the events that we are involved in during the year. We are also hoping to continue with social events, so keep a look out on the notice boards at the club for more information - we always need your support. This year, Michelle Singleton is continuing captaining the ladies first, but with help from myself and Ruth Blackburn, Lou Herring and Jo Martyn-Clarke will carry on with the ladies second team. As of yet, we have no one for the ladies third team, but this will hopefully change in the early weeks of the season. Any volunteers?
Good luck this season, and let’s make it another good one!
On a sombre note, the ladies section would like to extend sympathies to the family of Hannah Hollinshead, a Lytham team member who was tragically killed in an accident earlier on this year. She was a good team player and will be sorely missed.
